The Hills of Sicily

I generally don’t co-write, but when my friend Artie Traum came to me with the beginnings of this song, it seemed like a good time to start. We had a great time working through it, but had different visions for how the protagonist ended up. On his CD, you’ll find a different ending to the story!

I came here for the light
It shimmers on the sea
I sit alone and paint my canvas
Lost inside your memory
A thousand birds in flight
I gaze up to the sky and then
I wonder if I might
See your shining face again

Hold this dream for me
Cause I’m drowning
And I can’t see the future anymore
I’m down here on my knees
Hear me crying
Yeah I cry like an angel
In the hills of Sicily

These city streets at night
Are almost more than I can bear
I’ve got your image burning in my brain
Yeah your memory haunts me everywhere
Down among the olive trees
On those dry and sunny hills
Floating on the lazy summer breeze
So darling say you will

Hold this dream for me
Cause I’m drowning
And I can’t see the future anymore
I’m down here on my knees
Hear me crying
Yeah I cry like an angel
In the hills of Sicily
