Canto per Mangiare:Songs and Stories… is the literary companion to my recording of the same name. The book is an homage to my Italian cultural heritage, and an exploration of the fascinating connection between the two art forms of cooking and making music. It is divided into two sections: Food and Music. The first contains a collection of 12 family recipes that I wanted to preserve and document. Interspersed throughout are a series of essays that deal with topics ranging from my personal theories on Italian cooking, to discussions of Italian language and regional dialect. The music portion includes the stories behind the songs-why I recorded them and who played on the sessions. The book finishes with a discussion of how music and cooking intersect as art forms.
